Assistant Produce Manager

Position Summary:

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing daily department operations, ensuring excellent customer service, food quality, and staff performance. This position supervises team members, assists in scheduling and training, maintains product freshness and displays, and ensures compliance with all food safety and workplace standards.

Essential Job Duties:

• Supervise, train, and motivate Produce Department staff to achieve operational goals.
• Maintain product quality, rotation, and merchandising standards.
• Ensure compliance with health, sanitation, and safety standards.
• Open and close the department according to established procedures.
• Communicate department needs and issues to the Produce Manager.
• Provide excellent customer service by responding promptly to questions and concerns.
• Assist with ordering, inventory management, and shrink control.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and respectful team environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support overall store operations.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in produce, grocery, or retail supervision.
• Strong knowledge of produce handling, storage, and quality standards.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and customer service skills.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, email, POS/operations software).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
• Open availability to work any shift, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment:

• Exposure to wet, cold, and humid environments.
• Frequent bending, lifting, twisting, and squatting required.
• Use of equipment such as pallet jacks, box cutters, and scales.
