Job Description
Registered Dietician General Summary - Responsible for providing comprehensive, high quality nutritional care to patients, including screening, assessment, nutrition diagnosis, intervention/education, monitoring/evaluation, and documentation/care plans. Areas of responsibility include inpatients, outpatients and community outreach as well as advancing hospital initiatives for staff wellness.
Essential Job Functions - Works within the clinical nutrition program. Assists with integration and coordination of clinical nutrition and food service programs.
- Works with the clinical assistants on patients' needs/preferences/allergies and provides training on therapeutic diet education.
- Designs specialized nutrition care plans by utilizing the nutrition care process and documents accordingly in the medical record
- Participates in multi-disciplinary discharge rounds contributing pertinent information about patients' diet and nutritional needs.
- Reviews appropriateness of physician's diet order based on nutrition assessment and advises physician if modifications are recommended.
- Recommends appropriate nutritional support. Advises physician on suitable supplements, feeding formulas and methods.
- Provides nutritional education and counseling to patient/family as needed.
- May use appropriate clinical expertise to teach the use of glucometers.
- Conducts outpatient nutritional counseling and education including providing support to Speare Affiliates.
- Conducts in-service education for dietetic and hospital personnel as appropriate and serves as a nutrition education resource to nursing and medical personnel.
- Actively participants in wellness promotion for hospital.
- Working with the Director, develops and coordinates community nutrition education, educational outreach and support groups
- Aids in planning and revising regular and therapeutic patient menus.
- Assists with clinical continuous quality improvement program.
- Functions as preceptor for education programs.
- Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
- Maintains the professional credentials and/or continuing education hours required for the position and for professional and personal growth.
- Demonstrates hospital's stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.
Qualifications - Education
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. Registered Dietitian status with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
- Work Experience
- Required: 1 to 3 years as a Clinical Dietitian
- Preferred: Work in hospital setting preferred
- Licensure/Certifications/Registrations
- Required: Registered Dietitian and Licensed Dietitian in State of NH
- Other Skills/Knowledge

- Knowledge of food science, nutrition, food service, medicine, and human pathology.
- Ability to integrate food and nutrition with other disciplines in the practice setting.
- Knowledge and skill in providing systematic nutrition care, including screening, assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and documentation.
- Ability to promote effective professional relationships in the practice of nutrition, dietetics, healthcare and community service.
Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
