American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring a NC or compact license and strong high-acuity pediatric critical care experience.

\n \n Responsibilities\n
  • Position is based in a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
  • Pediatric ICU unit with 24 beds and an average census of 21-23 patients
  • Works with a diverse high-acuity pediatric population including respiratory, trauma, DKA, seizures, neurosurgical, renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplants, and complex medical cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio varies based on acuity from 2:1, 1:1, to 1:2
  • Day shift hours are 0700-1930 with 12-hour shifts three days per week on a 6-week schedule
  • Weekend rotation requires working 2 Fridays, 2 Saturdays, 2 Sundays, and 2 Mondays per 6-week period
  • Travelers must work 75% of holidays and cover both the eve and day of every other holiday while on contract
  • Floating required to Pediatric CVICU, NICU, Neonatal PCU, and General Pediatrics as needed
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris and Medfusion pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, Belmont Rapid Infuser, Phillips monitors, and Artic Sun
  • Responsibilities include complex pediatric critical care interventions, vasoactive drip management, invasive line care, chest tubes, g-tube/j-tube/feedings, and bedside procedures
  • Strong multidisciplinary team support available, including 24/7 intensivists, charge nurses, unit secretaries, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse, respiratory therapists, and advanced practice providers
  • Centralized and bedside monitoring systems are utilized
  • First-time travelers will be considered for this position
  • Mandatory orientation consists of new employee orientation and 2 days of departmental training
  • Navy scrubs are required
  • Free parking is provided on-site
  • Unit culture emphasizes teamwork, trust, accountability, and respect

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications are mandatory
  • Minimum of 2 years recent high-acuity Pediatric ICU experience required
  • Proficiency with EPIC EMR, Artic Sun, external ventricular drains (EVDs), Camino device, Belmont Rapid Infuser, vasoactive drip titration, management of invasive lines, and ventilator/trach management
  • Competency to float to Pediatric CVICU, Neonatal PCU, NICU, and General Pediatrics is expected
  • Applicants must reside at least 50 miles from the home unit
