Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) position working night shifts with every other weekend and holiday required and care for complex pediatric cases.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

• Position is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within an acute care hospital setting
• Unit consists of 8 beds with an average census of 4-5
• Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity
• Common patient cases include respiratory, DKA, traumas (MVAs, head trauma), post-surgical, neuro (seizures), overdoses, and suicide attempts
• Requires care for intubated patients, management of drips, sedations, ICPs, and EVDs; ECMO is not performed
• Typical equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPap, Nava, Vapotherm, and Heliox
• RNs are responsible for drawing their own labs and interpreting cardiac strips; no dedicated monitor techs or nurse aides present
• Uses Cerner EMR (transitioning to Epic)
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday required
• Self-scheduling using a tiered system; block scheduling is not permitted
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Floating may occur to Pediatrics or NICU (if experienced); float to adult areas as observer based on census
• Responsibilities include pediatric critical care, including sedation, medication titration, and crisis intervention
• No pediatric intensivist in house, but coverage within 10 minutes; residents are in house 24/7
• Charge nurse will take an assignment as needed
• Clean, professional, pediatric-appropriate scrubs are required
• Includes 1 day general hospital orientation and 2 days of unit-specific orientation
• First time travelers and travel duos are accepted; duos must work same weekends but not identical schedules
• Former permanent staff must have a break in service of at least 6 months prior to consideration
• Local candidates within 80 miles are accepted but will receive a reduced rate
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility

\n \n Requirements\n

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
• Current BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA) certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of recent PICU RN experience required
• Experience with intubated pediatric patients, titrating and administering cardiac, insulin, heparin, and sedation drips, and responding to emergency situations
• Ability to interpret and document cardiac telemetry strips independently
• Experience with ventilation and respiratory support equipment preferred
• Must provide two professional references: one from a supervisor within the past 12 months, and one from a peer or supervisor within the past 3 years
